Russell Brand is stepping into Dudley Moore‘s shoes for Warner Brother’s upcoming Arthur remake. While I mildly enjoyed the first trailer, this new one is rough. The new jokes fall flat and why is Brand not acting drunk?! That key element of the 1981 comedy classic seems missing. We do finally see Greta Gerwig, and it seems like they reshot their meet-cute scene. A few weekends I saw the film undergoing production in Grand Central, and as you can tell from this new trailer, it looks like they added that entire scene. Jason Winer’s comedy also stars Luis Guzman, Nick Nolte, Jennifer Garner and Helen Mirren. Check out the trailer below via Apple.

Synopsis: Irresponsible charmer Arthur Bach (Russell Brand) has always relied on two things to get by: his limitless fortune and the good sense of lifelong nanny Hobson (Helen Mirren) to keep him out of trouble. Now he faces his biggest challenge–choosing between an arranged marriage that will ensure his lavish lifestyle or an uncertain future with the one thing money can’t buy, Naomi (Greta Gerwig), the only woman he has ever loved. With Naomi’s inspiration and some unconventional help from Hobson, Arthur will take the most expensive risk of his life and finally learn what it means to become a man, in this re-imagining of the classic romantic comedy “Arthur.”

Arthur hits theaters April 8th, 2011.
