With the 66th Cannes Film Festival now unveiled, producers and distributors are able to show off their titles hitting the event and following a new look at Only God Forgives and The Past, trailers for two more movies have arrived. First up, Borgman, the next film from Alex van Warmerdam (The Last Days of Emma Blank, Waiter), is playing in competition and we’ve got an international teaser for the film described as a “dark, malevolent fable.” There’s no subtitles yet, but one can see it below, following a synopsis.
Is he a dream or a demon, a twisted allegory or an all-too-real embodiment of our fears? BORGMAN is a sinister arrival in the sealed-off streets of modern suburbia. His presence unleashes a crowing gallery of distortion around the careful façade constructed by an arrogant, comfortable couple, their three children and nanny.
Following that, out of competition and playing in the midnight movie slot is the next film from Johnnie To. While we fully expect Only God Forgives to deliver copious amounts of violence, Blind Detective should do the trick as well. Headlined by Andy Lau, he plays our title character, who is literally blind, and must track down the men who committed a bank robbery. Check out the subtitled look below.
