Considering her accomplished career, it’s always welcome to see Lily Tomlin shine in any sort of role. When that role happens to be the lead performance, it’s an even greater opportunity to see her talents. Such is the case when it comes to a forthcoming drama that premiered at Sundance earlier this year.

Directed by Paul Weitz (About a Boy), Grandma follows Tomlin’s character, who just broke up with her girlfriend on a journey to help her granddaughter secure money for an abortion. After a string of weak offerings from Weitz, this looks to be one of his more entertaining films judging by our first preview. Also starring Julia Garner, Marcia Gay Harden, Judy Greer, Laverne Cox, and Sam Elliott, check out the trailer below.

Lily Tomlin is Elle Reid. Elle has just gotten through breaking up with her girlfriend when Elle’s granddaughter Sage unexpectedly shows up needing $600 bucks before sundown. Temporarily broke, Grandma Elle and Sage spend the day trying to get their hands on the cash as their unannounced visits to old friends and flames end up rattling skeletons and digging up secrets.

Grandma opens on August 21st.
