I’ve never heard of an official theatrical trailer being much shorter than a teaser trailer, but we may have our first example. After a teaser earlier this year, The Weinstein Company decided to move their space thriller Apollo 18 all around the release calendar, before landing on a date this fall.
Directed by Gonzalo Lopez-Gallego and produced by Timur Bekmambetov, this new trailer strips away all the story and just highlights a few creepy scenes. It’s not grabbing me the way Paranormal Activity did, likely because of the less realistic space setting, but it looks somewhat interesting. I’m just afraid the authentic style may hurt its chances for an audience. Check out below, along with a neat Russian poster, via Yahoo.
Synopsis:
Officially, Apollo 17, launched December 17th, 1972, was the last manned mission to the moon. But a year later, in December of 1973, two American astronauts were sent on a secret mission to the moon funded by the US Department of Defense. What you are about to see is the actual footage which the astronauts captured on that mission. While NASA denies its authenticity, others say it’s the real reason we’ve never gone back to the moon.
Apollo 18 hits theaters September 2nd, 2011.
What do you think of the second trailer? Could it be a hit?
