a bigger splash 2

It’s mostly indeterminate when we’ll see the titles that are making waves at this year’s Venice Film Festival, but previews of the biggest titles have made their way online. Following their premieres, then, enjoy the first clips from Frederick Wiseman‘s In Jackson Heights, Luca Guadagnino‘s A Bigger Splash, Drake DoremusEquals, and Brady Corbet‘s directorial debut, The Childhood of a Leader — excepting the third, all films we liked or loved.

What these will actually tell you about them is less certain, given how short they are, but I’m still intrigued by much of what’s seen. Corbet’s picture especially stands out for appearing far more austere than one might expect of the international favorite, at least as far as first-timers go, though our review says its proceedings become unbearably intense. (And how beautiful it all looks, from Lol Crawley‘s cinematography to the use of the 1.66 aspect ratio.) With any luck, these won’t be the most we have of the titles for very long.

As a bonus, we also have the first clip for Dito Montiel‘s Man Down, and one can check back for our review.
