Ever since Clint Eastwood first showed interest in returning to acting with Robert Lorenz‘s Trouble With the Curve, the project has been red-hot with big-name casting buzz. There were the rumors (and ensuing confirmation) that Amy Adams would replace the previously-suspected Sandra Bullock as Eastwood‘s daughter. Then came the additions of Matthew Lillard (fantastic in The Descendants) and Joe Massingill. Meanwhile, the past couple of weeks, during which Justin Timberlake and John Goodman joined the cast, have brought even more developments of their own.

We learned, too, that the project has a quick turnaround in mind (as has become customary with EastwoodLorenz collaborations), as the theatrical release date has been officially set for September 28. And in a recent interview promoting the newly-released Safe House (read our review of that one here), Robert Patrick revealed that he has also been added to the Trouble With the Curve cast. [We Love Cult]

This makes Patrick‘s jam-packed 2012 slate all the more busier. He’s finished filming his parts in both The Gangster Squad and Lovelace, but he’s also involved in a handful of other projects — Billy Bob Thornton‘s Jayne Mansfield’s Car, Freedom for Joe, and Mr. Sophistication — for which a release later this year could very well be in the cards.

Production on Trouble With the Curve is bound to begin any day now, so I’d be surprised if any other major additions are announced. But considering the fast-spreading cast of performers, it wouldn’t be out of the question for another significant name or two to be inserted in the film. As it stands now, I’m quite looking forward to this one.

What do you think of the cast the project has compiled?
