Entourage is calling it quits after their 8th season, but that doesn’t mean that it’s just going to fade away; not when there’s money to be made and a potential new film franchise to start! Both Doug Ellin (creator/executive producer) and Mark Wahlberg (executive producer) have talked about their desire to bring their HBO show to the big-screen and even though no movement on that front has really occurred, it doesn’t stop the two from bringing it up whenever the mood strikes them.

The Television Critics Association Press Tour is currently going on, and they had a special event dedicated to Entourage, where Wahlberg spoke up about his desire for the planned movie [Deadline]:

“If I had to finance it myself, I would do it,” executive producer Mark Wahlberg said during the TCA session dedicated to Entourage’s final season. “I’ve been telling Doug, The Hangover is to me very much like Entourage, and look at all the recent success of R-rated movies.”

Wahlberg does have a point about R-rated comedies enjoying a successful streak, so it’s easy to see where he’s coming from.  After all, the slate this summer just crossed a combined $1 billion mark. I’m unsure about an Entourage movie however. After a few lackluster past few seasons I simply watch it out of loyalty and not much else. The Hangover has a completely different vibe and approach to their comedy, and I feel like Wahlberg just thinks “four best friends with questionable morals” equals R-rated comedy gold. I really hope he and Ellin get bored with talking about it and move on. Let the show end on HBO and don’t go the Sex and the City route. It’s just simply unnecessary.

Do you think Entourage should become a movie or even a film franchise?
