William Fichtner is simply the man. There is no other way around it. He single-handedly made Drive Angry 3D (somewhat) worth watching earlier this year (review here), and has been seen in The Dark Knight, Black Hawk Down, Crash, Go, and Armageddon. Variety now reports his latest project and it is a big one.

Fichtner will join Matt Damon, Jodie Foster, and Elite Squad actor Wagner Moura in Neill Blomkamp‘s District 9 follow-up Elysium.  While we don’t know much, it’s a Blade Runner-ish allegory set a century in the future (BR production designer Syd Mead is even working on it). Damon will play an ex-con and Moura will “play the film’s powerful villain, described as having a crazy sense of humor.”

The $120 million film will start production in July in Vancouver before moving to Mexico City in the fall.

Sony Pictures will release the film on March 8th, 2013.
