Headshot 2

After months of my own pleading, the Indonesian actioner, aptly titled Headshot, is getting a U.S. release this March. With that news comes a new U.S. trailer, which features much of what you’d expect from that title: furious punches, sprayed machine gun fire, and The Raid star Iko Uwais, who, if you say isn’t a complete badass, sounds the bells on the end of our friendship. The set-up is akin to something like the Bourne series. A man wakes up with amnesia, and is taken in by a woman calling him be an unfamiliar name. However, things heat up and, after a literal smash on the head, the man soon remembers…everything.

Featuring similar aesthetic stylings to The Raid — not to mention the same fighting style of silat — Headshot looks to be a hard-hitting, ferocious experience that will hopefully not only tide fans over until The Raid 3, but stand on its own two feet as a worthy piece of action cinema.

We said in our review, “The Raid star Iko Uwais deserves to silat his way through a million hapless evil men, but here’s hoping that, going forward, he picks better cinematic vehicles for his frighteningly fast feet and fists. Then again, every big action star worth their salt has a host of forgettable turns peppering the true showcases for their physical greatness. At least Headshot is good fun. It’s simultaneously a testament to directors Timo Tjahjanto and Kimo Stamboel’s skill and the disappointing lack in mainstream action filmmaking that their middle-of-the-road effort still stands out among the rest.”

See the trailer below, along with a poster and synopsis.

HEADSHOT centers on a mysterious young man who, after months in a coma from a gunshot wound to the head, is nursed back to health by a young student-doctor, Ailin. Realizing that the man has lost his memory and identity, the two quickly grow closer, not realizing that behind their momentary peace lays danger. Soon their lives collide with a gang of dangerous criminals led by an enigmatic crime lord—and with every violent confrontation, his memory brings him closer to a dark truth as the lethal personality awakening within him starts to reveal who he really is.
