“What is it that’s inside of you?” This question is left unanswered at the end of the first teaser trailer for The Dead Center, the newest supernatural thriller from director Billy Senese. Spoken by Shane Carruth’s character, the mysterious line of dialogue is seemingly in response to the ominous and haunting voiceover predominantly heard throughout the teaser.

Unfortunately, there’s not many plot details available, although I suggest that the mystery around the film’s details instills a bit more intrigue in the project as a whole. However, based on the calculated amount of information available in the trailer, it seems as if The Dead Center tells the story of someone who’s found himself to be immortal, as hinted by the line “I died and I came back… Wasn’t the first time.” Regardless, the trailer is enthralling enough on its own – constructed with vague and obstructive cinematography played over an eerie, synthy piece of music.

In the past, Billy Senese has directed a pair of mysterious shorts, and in 2014, he once again found himself within the genre with his feature directorial debut Closer to God. The Dead Center stars Shane Carruth, Poorna Jagannathan, and Jeremy Childs, and is slated for a 2019 release.

Check out the first teaser below as we await news if Carruth’s Upstream Color follow-up The Modern Ocean will ever get off the ground.
