After an enticing first trailer sold us on what’s sure to be the fall’s horror film to beat, Crimson Peak, another look has arrived. Featuring Guillermo del Toro going back to his horror-tinged roots, the film follows Jessica Chastain, Tom Hiddleston, Mia Wasikowska, and Charlie Hunnam in the story of an author who finds out her husband has some secrets — all in a haunted house.

“I always show you the monsters. I always want things to be up front. I want to show you the faun, the kaiju, and the ghost in the Devil’s Backbone. Because the scariest things in my stories, in my opinion, are the humans,” del Toro tells IGN. “I go very counter to the culture of ghost stories. I just want the ghosts to be, and then make it a creepy movie, rather than one based on scares. Make it an atmospheric movie, which is creepy, yes, but the more you attend to the story the more you’re hopefully invested in the human characters – good or evil – and the more the ghosts become a palpable threat. I think I did it in Devil’s Backbone, which is still one of my favourite movies I’ve done, and I hope we’ve pulled off something similar here. It’s a very different movie, but it’s similar in certain ways.”

Check out the trailer below, along with a different international version.

When her heart is stolen by a seductive stranger, a young woman is swept away to a house atop a mountain of blood-red clay: a place filled with secrets that will haunt her forever. Between desire and darkness, between mystery and madness, lies the truth behind Crimson Peak.
