Working steadily for the last decade or so, Jay and Mark Duplass have grown considerably since their mumblecore beginnings. With their last two efforts, Cyrus and Jeff, Who Lives at Home, featuring some of comedy’s biggest stars, their next film will go back to more of their even smaller roots. Shot awhile ago, The Do-Deca-Pentathlon features Mark Kelly, Steve Zissis, Jennifer Lafleur, Julie Vorus and Reid Williams and premiered earlier this year at the SXSW Film Festival. We liked the dramedy, which “contains small victories and strange rituals” and sees the brothers “grounding their humor in quirky obsession and touching realism.” We’ve got the first trailer today and one can see it below via Apple.

Synopsis:

From Jay and Mark Duplass, the writer/directors of the Sundance hits “The Puffy Chair,” “Cyrus” and the upcoming “Jeff Who Lives at Home” comes “The Do-Deca-Pentathlon,” the story of two grown brothers who secretly compete in a homemade Olympics during a family reunion. When their fierce and disruptive competition is uncovered, the brothers must choose between their passion for beating the hell out of each other and the greater good of the family.

The Do-Deca-Pentathlon hits theaters on July 6th.
