One film I was hoping to catch at Toronto International Film Festival this year was Rachid Bouchareb‘s gangster drama Outside The Law. At nearly 2.5 hours, the runtime didn’t quite match up with my schedule, so decided to skip it. Thankfully Algeria’s Oscar Foreign Language submission for this year is is getting a US release. The film stars Jamel Debbouze, Roschdy Zem, Sami Bouajila and you can check out the trailer below via Apple.

Synopsis: From writer-director Rachid Bouchareb (Days of Glory aka Indigenes) comes the film Outside the Law, the story of three brothers who fight for Algeria’s independence from France after World War II. After losing their family home in Algeria, three brothers are scattered across the globe. Messaoud joins the French army fighting in Indochina; Abdelkader becomes a leader of the Algerian independence movement; Said moves to Paris to make his fortune in the shady clubs and boxing halls of Pigalle. Gradually, their interconnecting destinies reunite them in the French capital, where freedom is a battle to be fought and won.

Outside The Law hits theaters November 3rd, 2010.

What do you think of the trailer? Does the film have a shot at getting the Oscar?
