Inception, 28 Days Later, and Sunshine star Cillian Murphy joined Carl Tibbetts‘ directorial debut Retreat last year. And, look at that, we now have a film and its screening at Cannes Film Festival soon. Sony Pictures picked it up for distribution here in the states. Tibetts, an editor who has worked on Harry Potter, Shaun of the Dead and Alien Vs Predator, also grabbed Thandie Newton and Jamie Bell for the virus outbreak horror/thriller. We now have our first early sales trailer via Shadow and Act, and it looks like a decent little film. My love for Murphy will have me in the seats, but I like the outbreak spin on what could have been a simple horror flick. Check out the trailer below.

Synopsis:

Murphy and Newton play a couple who travel to a remote island cottage, in an effort to focus on putting back the pieces of their broken marriage; their plans are altered by a wounded and armed stranger (Bell), who shows up at their door, carrying news about a deadly airborne virus; the trio, in the interest of survival, seal themselves inside the cottage, and, as you’d expect, like caged animals, tensions rise from the psychological to the physical.

Retreat doesn’t have a release date yet, but expect it by the end of the year.
