After premiering the first twelve minutes for your viewing pleasure, Fox Searchlight has released the official theatrical trailer for Zal Batmanglij‘s Sound of My Voice. Starring Brit Marling (Another Earth, Arbitrage) the cult drama premiered during Sundance of last year, where we called it “completely realistic, completely plausible” with “a looming sense of uneasiness buried beneath the surface that keeps you unnerved and engulfed. It’s movies like this that make film festivals worth going to.”

They seemed to have like our stance, as one of our opinions appears in the piece below, which paints an unsettling portrait of this lifestyle. Comparisons to Martha Marcy May Marlene are apparent, but this film mixes in the outside, journalistic perspective and seems to go more in-depth on the actual practices of this cult life. I adore Sean Durkin‘s debut, but this looks to be another thing entirely and one can check out the trailer below via Apple.

Synopsis:

In SOUND OF MY VOICE, Peter (Christopher Denham) and Lorna (Nicole Vicius), a couple and documentary filmmaking team, infiltrate a mysterious group led by an enigmatic young woman named Maggie (Brit Marling). Intent on exposing her as a charlatan and freeing the followers from her grip, Peter and Lorna start to question their objective and each other as they unravel the secrets of Maggie’s underworld.

Sound of My Voice hits theaters April 27th, 2012.
