Even though Skyline hasn’t hit theaters yet, that hasn’t stopped its co-directors Colin and Greg Strause from thinking about a sequel. Cole Abaius from Film School Rejects recently caught up with the two and learned that they already have a 45 page treatment for Skyline 2 on paper. Not only that, but in order for the sequel to get made, the movie doesn’t have to make as much money as say an Avatar would; because it was done independently on a low budget, the Brothers Strause only need to make about “one tenth” the amount that normal high profile event movie makes.
Judging by the trailers and advertisements that have been assaulting my eyes over the year, it seems like a good possibility that Skyline will make this one tenth and possibly a whole ton more. In my neck of the woods, the poster and teaser trailer alone have gotten people up in a tizzy ready to see some humans get sucked up into spaceships like dust mites into a vacuum. But this talk of a sequel has me a little uneasy; I absolutely HATED Alien Vs. Predator: Requiem, their last picture, and the other trailers I’ve seen of Skyline (the ones with actual dialogue) have not instilled faith that this movie is going to be any good except on a “wow, that was so horrible it was entertaining” level. Although I admire the assuredness of the brothers in their movie, I’d rather wait to see the first one before I get excited by a potential sequel. Let’s see how entertaining sucking up humans is the first go-round.
Skyline comes out November 12th.
Will you see Skyline? Do you think it will make enough to justify a sequel?
