Update: THR reports Christian Bale has dropped out of the project altogether “after much deliberation and conflicting feelings” and coming “to the conclusion he was not right for the part.” There’s no word yet if it’ll effect the additional casting, which can be seen below in the original story.
With Christian Bale finally confirmed to play the late Steve Jobs in the Danny Boyle-directed, Aaron Sorkin-scripted biopic, Sony is now looking to fill out the rest of their cast. Easily the most crucial supporting role will be that of Steve Wozniak, the co-founder of Apple and creator of their early computers in the 1970’s. We’ve now got word on who is set to play the figure, and it may come as a surprise to some.
Variety reports that none other than Seth Rogen has signed on to star as Wozniak. While primarily known for his comedic performances, we’ve seen the actor take on dramatic fare with 50/50 and Take This Waltz, and to some extent, in sections of a few of his Judd Apatow productions. In talks, but not confirmed for a role yet is Jessica Chastain, The Wrap reports. If we had to wager a guess, she could be interested in the role of Jobs’ wife Laurene Powell Jobs or mother of his first child, Chrisann Brennan.
Based on Walter Isaacson‘s biography, the film is said to take place during three key moments of Jobs’ career, so it’ll be intriguing to see how much room there is for supporting actors when Sorkin has confirmed Bale is in every scene of the film. It may be initially unexpected, but Rogen seems like a great fit, so check back as we get confirmation on Chastain and more. Expect a release later next year for the film that will likely begin production shortly.
