There was a time in Hollywood when people used to cringe when a film used a number to signify a sequel. At some point, however, there came a reactionary shift toward unnecessary subtitles for films, and rumor has it that Peter Jackson and MGM are to follow suit with the forthcoming Hobbit films.

As if things like Ghost Protocol and A Game of Shadows weren’t poor enough attempts, the needless tag-a-longs for the return to Middle Earth are rumored to be The Hobbit: There and Back Again or The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey [TheOneRing.net]. I also forgot to mention The Hobbit: Cashgrab.

Honestly though, for a subtitle that’s already useless to begin with, couldn’t they have, you know, tried? I’m excited for the film, I loved the book, but a simple Part I and II would suffice.

What do you think of these possible titles? Are you excited to return to Middle Earth?
