Up-and-coming actress Rebecca Hall has signed on to co-star with Will Ferrell in the dramedy Everything Must Go, based on the short (really short) story “Why Don’t You Dance?” by Raymond Carver about a man living on his front lawn while he sells everything he owns.

Hall has been making waves the last few years, offering up consistently strong supporting performances in well-chosen films, from Vicky Cristina Barcelona to The Prestige to Frost/Nixon. Her role here is of THE next-door neighbor: a young married woman curious by Ferrell’s alcoholic front lawn loner.

The screenplay is by Dan Rush and is a beautifully-written, subtle piece of character study.

It’ll be interesting to watch Ferrell throw his dramatic weight around (see Winter Passing/Stranger Than Fiction for a taste of what to expect), especially next to someone rooted in drama like Hall.

Do you think Will Ferrell is capable is holding a dramatic picture? What do you think of Rebecca Hall as an actress?
