According to Variety it is now official that Paramount is going to be putting a Max Steel film based on the Mattel toy line and animated series into production. It will be produced by Joe Roth (America’s Sweethearts). Paramount purchased the film rights to the franchise last week so it is a bit surprising that they would move forward so quickly.
I was a big fan of the animated series when I was a kid so I know that there is film potential. This problem is the whole story idea. It is about a 19 year old extreme sports athlete who suffers an accident at a government run lab (that he thinks is an extreme sports company) and has nano technology embedded into him. He ends up becoming a secret agent because of this. It sounds like XXX meets Chuck meets Jake 2.0. I’m cautiously looking forward to it.
