In a smart move by Paramount, they’ve nudged back Brad Bird‘s Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol from December 16th to Wednesday December 21st, 2011. Deadline reports the studio has backed away from Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows and Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked the previous week to now battle David Fincher’s The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, Steven Spielberg‘s The Adventures of Tintin, the sci-fi thriller The Darkest Hour, Cameron Crowe‘s We Bought A Zoo, and Angelina Jolie‘s directorial debut In The Land Of Blood And Honey.
It’s going to be a busy winter, folks. It also will be a fight for IMAX screens, as Protocol and Tintin are both headed to the format, with the former actually having scenes natively shot in it. Ghost Protocol stars Tom Cruise, Jeremy Renner, Paula Patton, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Anil Kapoor, Michael Nyqvist and Tom Wilkinson. Check out the trailer here if you haven’t yet.
They’ve also set a date for the next Tom Cruse action flick, One Shot. Christopher McQuarrie‘s adaptation of the Jack Reacher novel by Lee Child is hoping to kick off another franchise, as Cruise plays “a retired military policeman who wanders the country with his toothbrush, the clothes on his back and his bankbook and inadvertently gets involved in conspiracies that find him taking the side of the powerless and exploited. He often settles matters with explosive violence.” The studio has set a preliminary date of February 8th, 2013, in an effort to produce similar results as Martin Scorsese‘s Shutter Island, released in the same timeframe.
In other Paramount news, they’ve also set a date for Josh Schwartz‘s Halloween comedy Fun Size “about a teenage girl who loses her younger brother after being forced to take him trick or treating.” It will hit on October 12th, 2012. [THR]
They also set a March 2nd, 2012 debut for Cyrus directors Mark and Jay Duplass‘ latest film Jeff, Who Lives at Home. Starring Jason Segel and Ed Helms, “this is the story of one man searching for the meaning of life while running to the store to buy wood glue. Using the universe as his guide, Jeff looks for signs to help determine his path. However, a series of comedic and unexpected events leads him to cross paths with his family in the strangest of locations and circumstances. Jeff just may find the meaning of his life… and if he’s lucky, pick up the wood glue as well.” It will premiere at Toronto International Film Festival this September.
Lastly, in non-Paramount release news this time, Lynne Ramsay‘s drama We Need To Talk About Kevin (starring Tilda Swinton, John C. Reilly and Ezra Miller with Radiohead‘s Jonny Greenwood doing the score) has been set for a December 2nd, 2012 release. indieWIRE reports the news and you can check out our Cannes review here.
