According to Deadline, Paramount has bumped up the release date for M. Night Shymalan‘s The Last Airbender to Thursday, July 1st.  The move was prompted by the weekend release of The Twilight Saga: Eclipse and the studio’s attempt at attracting a wider female audience.  While reports of early tracking are looking good with the male crowd, the studio wanted to get an earlier start on the holiday weekend with the female demographic.

Synopsis via IMDB: Four nations (Air, Water, Earth, and Fire) are tied by destiny when the Fire nation launches a brutal war against the others. A century has passed with no hope in sight to change the path of this destruction. Caught between combat and courage, Aang (Noah Ringer) discovers he is the lone Avatar with the power to manipulate all four elements. Aang teams with Katara (Nicola Peltz), a Waterbender, and her brother, Sokka (Jackson Rathbone), to restore balance to their war-torn world.  The film also stars Slumdog Millionaire star Dev Patel as Zuko.

The live-action feature film is based on the hugely successful Nickelodeon animated TV series.

The Last Airbender will now be arriving in theaters July 1st, 2010.
