Since any New York City cinephile has a nearly suffocating wealth of theatrical options, we figured it’d be best to compile some of the more worthwhile repertory showings into one handy list. Displayed below are a few of the city’s most reliable theaters and links to screenings of their weekend offerings — films you’re not likely to see in a theater again anytime soon, and many of which are, also, on 35mm. If you have a chance to attend any of these, we’re of the mind that it’s time extremely well-spent.

Museum of the Moving Image

For the latest selection of Howard Hawks, Tiger Shark will play on both Saturday and Sunday (10/5, 10/6), the former date also bringing with it Man’s Favorite Sport? (The question mark belongs to that title; we’re pretty sure it’s present that day.) On Sunday, Gary Cooper and Joan Crawford can be seen in Today We Live.

BAMCinématek

If you failed to get your fill of Cassavetes over the summer, “Cassavetes Redux” offers something of a second chance: The Killing of a Chinese Bookie plays Friday (10/4); Opening Night comes around Saturday (10/5); and A Woman Under the Influence can be seen this Sunday (10/6). All are on 35mm.

Museum of Modern Art

“Dante Ferretti: Designing for the Big Screen” brings a slate of recent Scorsese features: Kundun and Casino screen on Friday (10/4), followed the next day by Shutter Island and, this Sunday (10/6), Hugo. Vittorio de Sica‘s  The Garden of the Finzi-Continis will, too, play Friday, while Ettore Scola‘s That Night in Varennes and Jean-Jacques Annaud‘s The Name of the Rose have been scheduled.

IFC Center

Sam Peckinpah‘s The Getaway, starring Steve McQueen, can be seen on 35mm this Friday and Saturday (10/4, 10/5) at midnight. Also on 35mm during those nights and times is Mulholland Drive; not on film but, still, a great motion picture running concurrently is The Big Lebowski.

Robert Altman‘s Come Back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean can be seen in the morning throughout this weekend; on opposite sides of the day, a restored director’s cut of the non-Nicolas Cage Wicker Man will show.

Film Forum

A new restoration of Jacques Demy‘s Lola plays Friday and Saturday (10/4, 10/5), kicking off a retrospective on the French helmer’s career.

Sunday (10/6) is for musicals: Demy’s Catherine Deneuve – and Gene Kelly-led The Young Girls of Rochefort, as well as Une chambre en ville, is accompanied by morning screenings of West Side Story.

Nitehawk Cinema

“The Works – Terry Gilliam” reaches its height with midnight screenings of Brazil this Friday and Saturday (10/4, 10/5). Those same nights and times, “Nitehawk Nasties” keeps up its run with Bloodsucking Freaks showing on 35mm; this also commences “Halloween at Nitehawk,” during the weekend continued with Ridley Scott‘s Legend on Saturday and Sunday (10/6), itself also part of “Shout at the Devil” and an October brunch series.

Close to the early Cruise classic, John Boorman‘s infamous Deliverance, with “Country Brunchin’ and a live pre-show performance, is to play.

Landmark Sunshine

On Friday (10/4), Monty Python and the Holy Grail makes an appearance, followed by a Saturday (10/5) screening of The Room.
