With images forever seared into the depths of my brain, the latest film from Turkish helmer Nuri Bilge Ceylan, Once Upon a Time In Anatolia, was one of my favorites of last year. Thankfully it’s taken the director barely no time at all to gather the resources for his next project — in fact, it’s already in production.

Tipped off by our friend Eric Lavallee over at ION Cinema (please give them a read if you don’t do so already), we’ve got word that Ceylan’s next project is titled Winter Sleep (translated from Kis uykusu in his native tongue). There’s no plot details yet, but we do know a 10-week shoot in Cappadocia, Turkey already kicked off in February with stars Haluk Bilginer (The International, The Reluctant Fundamentalist), Melisa Sozen and Demet Akbag.

This update points to a likely Cannes 2014 bow for the project and one can check back for updates as they come in. In the meantime, check out Once Upon a Time In Anatolia over on Netflix Instant in HD — it’s well worth the nearly three hour runtime.
