Yesterday a bit of a shocker dropped in Hollywood, as the upcoming western Jane Got a Gun was all set to begin production with around 150 crew members, but everyone showed up besides the director. While all the details aren’t clear regarding why We Need To Talk About Kevin‘s Lynne Ramsay dropped out of the project at the very last minute, there was a hint of behind-the-scenes turmoil, with one of its stars, Michael Fassbender, also recently departing.
Following through with his promise though, producer and financier Scott Steindorff has set a record turnaround and already secured the replacement. According to Deadline, Warrior and Pride and Glory director Gavin O’Connor will be stepping in to helm the western, which means he is back in business with Joel Edgerton, who is joined by Natalie Portman, Rodrigo Santoro and Jude Law.
Brian Duffield‘s screenplay centers around a leader of a gang (Law) who exerts violent strength on a dissenting member; hoping to save the family farm, his wife, Jane Hammond (Portman), tracks down an old flame to help her stand off against those lowlifes planning to make some final statement with their family. As things begins to escalate, she learns about the art of protecting oneself in the dangerous, violent wild west. We wish O’Connor the best of luck taking this one over so quickly and we look forward to the results, as well as the inevitable behind-the-scenes story.
Production kicks off tomorrow, only three days behind schedule.
Do you think O’Connor makes for a good replacement?
