Following his one-of-a-kind Holy Motors in 2012, Leos Carax is finally set to begin shooting his follow-up this summer, the English-language musical Annettte, however its casting has not been without its hiccups. After being attached for some time, both Rooney Mara and Rihanna dropped out, but now it looks like the cast is materializing. She was spotted with the director earlier this year (see below tweet) and now Michelle Williams has officially come aboard.

According to Cécile Olivy of the agency Mcasting, the casting is now confirmed, which also reveals a shoot will kick off in July and conclude in September. The musical tells the tragic story of a stand-up comedian (Adam Driver) whose opera singer wife is deceased. He finds himself alone with his 2-year-old daughter who has a surprising gift. Featuring music from Sparks and distribution from Amazon Studios, this project continues quite a streak for Williams, who had Certain Women and Manchester by the Sea last year, and will be seen in Todd Haynes’ Wonderstruck.
