Considering there’s still well over a month until Inherent Vice hits limited release, and even further until it’ll be in theaters nationwide, to help the wait we’ve featured the NYFF press conference and the soundtrack. During the premiere weekend at NYFF director Paul Thomas Anderson also sat down for an extensive talk with Kent Jones discussing the formation of his Thomas Pynchon adaptation and notably its influences.

Thanks to our good friend Cory Everett (@modage), we now have a recording of the talk which should hold us over until the direct audio is released. During the talk PTA reveals different touchstones he looked back at, including North by Northwest (notably how it deals with exposition), the “outlandish” and “funny” Repo Man, Police Squad! and Naked GunNeil Young’s directorial debut Journey Through the Past (with his songs featured in the film), Quentin Tarantino‘s Jackie Brown, and more.

Check out the talk below and read our review here. Update: Listen to a better version below, courtesy of The Close-Up:

Update: See the new cover for the reissued novel.
