THE TWILIGHT SAGA: NEW MOON

There probably isn’t a film franchise I could care less about than The Twilight Saga, but news like this proves to be pretty interesting for the industry. According to a press release sent out yesterday, as of Saturday evening around 8:00p EST, Twilight: New Moon has sold the most advance tickets in Fandango’s ten-year history. New Moon currently accounts for 86% of all weekly sales on the site. Fandango reports “nation’s top theater owners are regularly posting brand new showtimes on additional screens” and that since August the film has been among the top 5 weekly sellers. They also note that the tickets-per-transaction number is quite high. The top 5 Advance Ticket-Sellers on Fandango (as of November 15, 2009) are now as follows:

1. The Twilight Saga: New Moon (2009)
2. Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith (2005)
3. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2009)
4. The Dark Knight (2008)
5. Twilight (2008)

If New Moon follows the same box office pattern as last year’s film it will open big then drop (Twilight had a 62.2% 2nd weekend drop). Will New Moon fizzle out before Avatar (and it’s massive budget) come along just a month later?
