The last we heard about District 9 director Neill Blomkamp‘s next project, it was in the early development stages. Last June we reported that the film is titled Elysium, a sci-fi/horror film that takes place on another planet, in the future. Today Deadline has confirmed that Elysium will indeed be his next project.

Sharlto Copley, who broke-out with the Oscar-nominated District 9 and starred in The A-Team, will re-team with Blomkamp. The duo are currently “taking meetings all over town” to find a distributor. The interest from every studio is strong, but very little details on the project are given. It is not related to District 9 at all, but like it, the film will be “filled with many sociopolitical ideas wrapped up inside a Hollywood action film.”

They are currently meeting to discuss budget and look to retain the low-budget, free creative control approach from District 9. Like he originally pitched D9 to Peter Jackson, Blomkamp is bringing along a graphic novel to present to the studios. Boy, would I like to take a peek at that.

A viral video by Blomkamp was also recently uncovered on WiReD Magazine, titled AGM Heartland. We don’t know if it has any relation to this project, but you can view it below.

What do you want to see from Elysium? Can Blomkamp repeat his success by taking the same path?
