The Weinstein Company today announced that filming on the upcoming My Week With Marilyn has officially begun. A first look photo was released along with the announcement that shows, for the first time, Michelle Williams (Brokeback Mountain) in costume as Marilyn Monroe. Check it out below:
My Week With Marilyn, based on Colin Clark‘s book of the same name, is about a week in the life of Marilyn Monroe in 1957 during production of the film The Prince and the Showgirl. It tells Clark’s story of the week he spent with Monroe in England when he was assigned by Sir Laurence Oliver to keep an eye on her.
In addition to Williams, the cast includes Eddie Redmayne as Colin Clark, Kenneth Branagh as Sir Laurence Olivier, Judi Dench as Sybil Thorndike, Dominic Cooper as Milton Greene, Emma Watson, Derek Jacobi and Julia Ormond.
The Weinstein Company seems pretty excited about the film (and why wouldn’t they?). “We are truly thrilled to be working with the immensely talented Simon Curtis on his feature debut… from a remarkable true story , beautifully realised script, stellar cast and top-notch crew,” the announcement reads. “We couldn’t be happier embarking on this production.”
As is the case with most films, on-set pictures leaked to the Web as well. Have a look below and see more at Popsugar:
I don’t know how excited I can get about a film about Marilyn Monroe, but Williams looks just like her. I can’t think of a better person to cast in the role. Look for My Week With Marilyn sometime in 2011.
Do you think Williams looks like Monroe? Can you think of anyone who would have looked better?
