The independent comedy The Brass Teapot is currently being shopped around Cannes, The Playlist reports. The movie will follow a married couple in their 20’s, played by Michael Angarano and Juno Temple, who are trying to break out of poverty when they find a mysterious teapot that will grant them unlimited money in exchange for someone else suffering. Kind of like The Boxm but I assume funny on purpose and less painful to watch. The Brass Teapot is being shopped around the French film festival by TF1 International, who also handled the French comedy Micmacs.

I’m intrigued by the premise, and the fact that it’s supposed to be a dark comedy. As far as casting goes, it’s a positive to the movie and to its chances at getting distribution especially since Temple’s star is currently on an upswing (her big role in next year’s The Dark Knight Rises will definitely help this out). Angarano was last seen in Ceremony and has Kevin Smith‘s Red State this year. Let’s just hope it doesn’t end up too hokey; a movie like this could either be funny for the right reasons, or funny for the absolute wrong ones, but as long as they stick to the potential darkness of it and don’t wuss out, The Brass Teapot could be tons of fun. But we won’t know till early 2012 when the movie will be completed and ready to be released.

What do you think about The Brass Teapot and the two leads that have been cast?
