Alright, alright, alright. Few actors have had such a 180-degree career turn than Matthew McConaughey, and that’s just this year. The actor, known for few a great roles but mostly a rom-com lead, has taken a stellar path as of late, and it’s about to get better. We’ve seen him in the hilarious, perfectly cast role of club owner in Magic Mike, soon after he premiered Jeff Nichol‘s Mud and Lee Daniel‘s The Paperboy at Cannes. Then we have Richard Linklater‘s modest indie hit Bernie and William Friedkin‘s demented Killer Joe. Now the actor is jumping aboard one of the most-anticipated films of next year.
Deadline reports he has joined the film as Mark Hanna, boss and mentor of Jordan Belfort, played by Leonardo DiCaprio. He joins an already-stacked cast including Jonah Hill, Jean Dujardin, Kyle Chandler, Cristin Milioti, Margot Robbie, Jon Bernthal, Rob Reiner, Kenneth Choi, P.J. Byrne, Ethan Suplee, Max Hoffman, Katarina Cas and Jon Favreau.
Terence Winter (Boardwalk Empire and The Sopranos) penned the script which tells the true-life story of crime in the financial sector and the downfall of one of its top workers. With directors and comedians part of the cast, Scorsese seems to be having quite some fun filling the roles for this ensemble. As seen in his teaching of Alex Pettyfer in Steven Soderbergh‘s latest, McConaughey can pull off one hell of a mentor, so this should be some fun.
With production kicking off this month a 2013 release is certain.
