There comes a time in the careers of most actresses where they are presented with a seemingly obligatory horror feature to star in. After having a stellar 2011 with The Tree of Life, Take Shelter and even an Oscar nomination for The Help (not to mention a handful of other films), Jessica Chastain has decided to go forth with one a project in the genre and we’ve got the first trailer today.
Executive produced by Guillermo del Toro (aka he slapped his name on it), a brunette Chastain leads Mama, from director Andy Muschietti. Based on his short film, I have to say this one looks actually creepy. While a bit silly at times, there’s tons of disturbing imagery that perhaps del Toro had more of a hand in than imagined. Synopsis:
Guillermo del Toro presents Mama, a supernatural thriller that tells the haunting tale of two little girls who disappeared into the woods the day that their parents were killed. When they are rescued years later and begin a new life, they find that someone or something still wants to come tuck them in at night.
Mama arrives on January 18th, 2013.
