When The Hunger Games was building to its release, complete with uninspiring posters and shoddy-looking trailers, who would’ve thought that a) the film turned out relatively fine, and b) it would grow into a mega-franchise with not one, but two stars of Magnolia in its final roster? While I don’t know what mind is out there to estimate how many of that film’s stars will find themselves in the sequels to a film adaptation of a young adult novel, even such a psychotic mind ought to be surprised at how things have turned out.
Following the acquisition of Philip Seymour Hoffman (seen brooding it up in a preview for this fall’s Catching Fire), Deadline report that Julianne Moore will come aboard the series’ final two installments — The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 — to play Capitol (i.e. central setting) President Alma Coin. (God, the names Suzanne Collins comes up with.) Lionsgate are expected to have the details and other business work sorted out in a short amount of time.
As with Catching Fire — arriving November 15 — Francis Lawrence will direct Part 1 and Part 2, which are to be released on November 21, 2014 and November 20, 2015, respectively.
Do you think Moore is a proper fit for the Hunger Games series, and vice versa?
