John Hurt, the voice of narration behind the first two films in Lars von Trier’s USA: Land of Opportunity trilogy, has joined the already amazing ensemble cast of the bad boy auteur’s latest project Melancholia. The film also stars Kiefer Sutherland, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Kirsten Dunst, Udo Kier, and father and son duo Alexander and Stellan Skarsgård in what is being billed as a sci-fi psychological disaster movie about people trying to cope with the death of the planet.

Sounds like a perfect addition to an already impressive cast and hot off the heels of the horrifying horrorfest that is Antichrist, the apocalyptic setting for von Trier seems like a perfect fit. The film is set for mid summer production in Sweden and should be primed for a Cannes 2011 premiere.
