It seems that James Mangold loves his Wild West-style movies. The director of 3:10 to Yuma, and more recently, Knight and Day, has been signed on to helm The Gunslinger, a revenge thriller Western backed by New Regency. [THR]

Mangold‘s wife, Cathy Konrad, is set to produce under the couple’s Tree Line Film company, and Andrew Lazar is also attached as a co-producer.

The project was first picked up by Warner Bros from Underworld 4 man, John Hlavin. The plot focuses on a retired Texas Ranger who, after his brother is murdered, decides to get his revenge by going after those who killed him. The Playlist has also heard rumors of Josh Brolin attached, who most recently stars in another western, True Grit from the Coens.

New Regency are looking to start production for The Gunslinger next spring.
