From the director of Alvin and the Chipmunks and Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties, Tim Hill, comes the next live-action/animation mash-up Hop. Also helping out is Chris Meledandri‘s Illumination Entertainment, the team behind last year’s massive hit Despicable Me. Apple has our first full trailer and while I’m clearly not the demographic, it looks pretty poor. The jokes are cheap and James Marsden, an actor I normally admire, clearly looks awkward in the lead role. Russell Brand, after voicing Dr. Nefario in Despicable Me, leads as the Easter Bunny. The family comedy also stars Kaley Cuoco, Hank Azaria, Elizabeth Perkins, Gary Cole, David Hasselhoff, Chelsea Handler, and Hugh Laurie. See the trailer below.

Synopsis: Blending state-of-the-art animation with live action, Hop tells the comic tale of Fred (James Marsden), an out-of-work slacker who accidentally injures the Easter Bunny (voiced by Russell Brand) and must take him in as he recovers. As Fred struggles with the world’s worst houseguest, both will learn what it takes to finally grow up. The film is helmed by Tim Hill, director of the blockbuster Alvin & the Chipmunks and produced by Chris Meledandri’s Illumination Entertainment (Despicable Me).

Hop hits theaters April 1st, 2011.

What do you think of the trailer? Will it fare as well as Despicable Me?
