Earlier today stories began to fly across the internet about Stephen Sommers, saying the director of G.I. Joe had been fired just two months before the films debut. The reason was a horrible test screening that caused the company to bring in Stuart Baird (Editor of such films as Casino Royale) to rework the current cut and save the franchise. Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura however claims that Sommers has not been fired and the stories are, “very unfair” and “hit-whoring.” So there you have it, Bonaventura confirms Stephen Sommers was not fired. There is some controversy to this statement though…

What Bonaventura does not comment on is the rumor that Sommers has been locked out of the editing room and Stuart Baird has come to re-cut the film. Lets also keep in mind that stories circulated recently saying Lorenzo di Bonaventura had been told, “his services were no longer needed on the film.” There was no comment on these claims either.
