We posted some set photos last year, but now we have the first official look at The Social Network star Rooney Mara in David Fincher‘s next film The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. After playing Erica Albright in Fincher’s likely Best Picture winner, Mara is taking quite a dark turn with her portrayal as hacker extraordinaire Lisbeth Salander. While it isn’t an official still from the film, you check out the photos above and below from W Mag (via Coming Soon).
We also confirmed that Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, who scored TSN, will return for this film. They’ve compiled about two hours of music over the last few weeks.
Based off Stieg Larsson‘s popular novel and a script by Steven Zaillian, the film follows “a journalist who is aided in his search for a woman who has been missing — or dead — for forty years by a young female hacker.” I’ve read the novel and it is a fascinating drama that I can’t wait to see handled by Fincher.
The novel trilogy has already been made into Swedish films and they all saw limited US releases in 2010. Fincher’s version features a strong cast of Daniel Craig, Rooney Mara, Christopher Plummer, Robin Wright, and Stellan Skarsgård.
The film is on a long shoot in Sweden, as well as a Los Angeles soundstage and is set for a December 21st, 2011 release.
