Not content with having a film made about it’s origin’s (David Fincher’s The Social Network), it appears that even games played on Facebook are now ripe for film adaptations, as Mafia Wars has been picked up by Radar Studios [Pajiba].

In the RPG-like game, created by Zynga, players complete jobs to gain cash and experience with which to establish their criminal empires, and can recruit other users to join them. Primarily set in New York, other locations such as London, Moscow and Bangkok have been added.

With over 25 million users, clearly Radar have realised there is an audience ready for a big-screen adaptation. Forgive my cynicism, but with there being more mafia-related films than there are stars in the galaxy, I’m not hopeful that one based on such source material will be enough to compete with the classics.

Do you play Mafia Wars? Are you excited to see a film version?
