With his Hollywood debut Dead Man Down set to hit theaters next month, Danish director Niels Arden Oplev has already found his next project. He’s been tapped to direct a remake of the suspense-thriller Flatliners for Columbia Pictures, according to Bloody Disgusting. The director of the original The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo will draw from the 1990 hit film by Joel Schumacher, with a script coming from Source Code scribe Ben Ripley.

The original film featured an all-star cast including Kevin Bacon, Julia Roberts, Kiefer Sutherland and William Baldwin as a group of medical students who became obsessed with seeing how close they could bring themselves to death, without ever crossing over permanently themselves. Their goal was to see if they could find out if any secrets lay beyond.

In recent years Oplev has been keeping himself busy directing TV in the U.S. (Unforgettable) and abroad (Millennium). In his latest suspense-thriller Dead Man Down, the Dane re-unites once again with Swedish actress Noomi Rapace (Prometheus), as a woman seeking vengeance who decides to blackmail the right-hand man of a New York crime boss. Oplev has previously directed Rapace in the European blockbuster Dragon Tattoo and in the epic Swedish drama Millennium and one can see his latest work on March 8th.
