dorian gray

The teaser trailer for Dorian Gray, a film based on the classic novel by Oscar Wilde,  has been released by ShockTillYouDrop. Directed by Oliver Parker, Dorian Gray tells the story of a very attractive young man named Dorian (Ben Barnes). He arrives in Victorian London and is quickly swept away by its lively pleasures, meeting along the way a charismatic man named Henry Wotton (Colin Firth). But when Dorian has his portrait painted he becomes obsessed with keeping his handsome and youthful body forever. His pledge to remain as he looks in the portrait begins to have dire consequences when the portrait itself starts to age.

If the trailer is anything to go by Parker has done well in projecting a surreal, but not overbearingly abstract interpretation of Dorian Gray. Ben Barnes seems to fit the role of the hedonistic Dorian but with Colin Firth as his co-star, he will need to be magnificent to shine as the star. Overall however, it looks like a very stylistic film with a clever plot.

The teaser trailer has been released in time for its debut at the Toronto Film Festival in September. As yet there is no release date set in the U.S.
