The Dark Knight

According to Harry Knowles over at AICN he has spoken to some of the key players of the upcoming third batman installment and has stated that the third film could be shot completely in IMAX. Many will recall that a few select sequences and all of the external shots were filmed in the format. The film is set to begin production in 2010 with a possible 2011 but more likely 2012 release. There is still no word on Christopher Nolan’s involvement in the project. But Christian Bale and Michael Caine are both contracted to return.

I very recently (less than 24 hours ago) had the pleasure re watching The Dark Knight in blu-ray (which features the IMAX sequences in the original ratio). When it was over it really left me craving for more (as it always does). A third film definatley needs to be shot in full IMAX. With James Cameron’s AVATAR shot in full IMAX 3D coming out later this year it seems all the more likely (and possible) that it could be done this way. The worst thing that could happen is if the film is shot in stadard 35mm film and is digitally unpressed for IMAX. I had the unfortunate experience of seeing Star Trek in the form in an IMAX Dome. It proved that upressing films is a horrible idea and that IMAX is the future and is what will bring people back to the theaters.

Do you want the new Batman film to be shot in full IMAX?
