John le Carré fans won’t have to wait too long for the next espionage thriller from the British author to hit the big-screen. Today, Ink Factory Films confirmed with The Film Stage that its new project, A Most Wanted Man, wrapped on Tuesday, November 20th and that the film is aiming for a domestic release in the fall of 2013. It was also reported by German newspaper Hamburger Abendblatt that first footage of the film would be shown at the Berlin Film Festival, as well as at Cannes, to buyers, however a spokesman at Ink Factory Films didn’t comment on the possibilities of a partial or full, festival screening at this time.
From Dutch filmmaker Anton Corbijn, the project marks his follow-up to another subdued thriller with The American, and features a stellar cast including Rachel McAdams (Sherlock Holmes, Midnight in Paris), Willem Dafoe (Antichrist, Spider-Man), Daniel Bruhl (Inglorious Basterds, The Bourne Ultimatum), Robin Wright (Moneyball, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo), as well as this year’s likely best supporting Oscar winner, Philip Seymour Hoffman.
Adapted for the screen by Australian writer Andrew Bovell (Edge of Darkness, Lantana), the themes in the Carré story pivot around the war on terror and money laundering. The plot centers on a Hamburg-based terrorist cell’s involvements in 9/11 attacks. It involves a dodgy banker and a lawyer, who are trying to help a refugee suspected by intelligence of aiding the Islamic terror network involved in the attack.
