Think of this as a final nail in the coffin for Paradise Lost. After production was scrapped, director Alex Proyas is moving on himself and already has another film to shoot this year. In a press release, Red Granite Pictures, the team behind the upcoming Martin Scorsese‘s Wolf of Wall Street, have announced they’ll finance and co-produce an adaptation of The Unpleasant Profession of Jonathan Hoag.

Based on Robert Heinlein‘s 1942 novel, Proyas adapted the film himself after being enchanted with it at a young age. The concept, which can be read below, sounds like a great drama with just a tinge of sci-fi. As I was one of the few that seemed to dig his last film Knowing, I wanted to see his epic undertaking of a film like Lost. But this project, one he has seemingly true passion for, will do just fine.

In “Hoag,” the title character is struck one evening with the realization that he has no memory of what he does during the day. Distraught over his predicament, and particularly concerned that he might be engaged in some nefarious activities, he contacts a husband and wife detective agency and asks them to surreptitiously follow him. The truth takes a dark and ultimately earth-shattering turn as their investigation leads to a series of frightening revelations, beginning with a group of shadowy figures who gravely warn of dire consequences unless the pair immediately cease their inquiry into the nature of Hoag’s identity.

With shooting beginning this fall in Australia, expect casting news this summer.
