Following this fall’s 25th anniversary re-release of his classic Cinema Paradiso, director Giuseppe Tornatore has returned with the mystery thriller The Best Offer. Initially premiering at Berlin International Film Festival earlier this year, the Geoffrey Rush-led project is hitting theaters on New Year’s Day and today brings the first U.S. trailer and poster.

Following Rush as an art auctioneer who becomes obsessed with an extremely reclusive heiress who collects fine art (played by Sylvia Hoeks), it looks like an intriguing mystery and while the early-year release has us a bit worried, hopefully it’ll be worth our time. With music from Ennio Morricone and supporting turns by Jim Sturgess and Donald Sutherland, check out the trailer and poster below.

Geoffrey Rush is superb in this stylish art world thriller as Virgil Oldman, managing director of a leading auction house. Over the years, he has collected hundreds of masterful, priceless portraits of women that he keeps hidden in his villa. One day, Oldman receives a special assignment: a mysterious young woman, who refuses to appear in person, asks him to sell her family’s antiques. Not only interested in her classical paintings and furniture, Oldman becomes increasingly fascinated by the mysterious incognito woman, leading to a sumptuous and entertaining mystery of passions, neuroses and intrigue.

The Best Offer hits VOD and theaters on January 1st.
