It’s hard to believe we’re getting a new Wes Anderson in a matter of months. After a beautiful teaser and a trio of stills, we’ve finally got the first official poster for his next film, Moonrise Kingdom. You will see the big stars in name only here, including Bill Murray, Harvey Keitel, Bruce Willis, Edward Norton, Frances McDormand, Tilda Swinton, Jason Schwartzman, as Anderson opts for for just focusing on newcomers Jared Gilman and Kara Hayward. They play the young couple in love who run away and a search commences to find them. Check it out below via Moviefone as I eagerly await a chance to buy this thing.
Synopsis:
Set on an island off the coast of New England in the summer of 1965, MOONRISE KINGDOM tells the story of two twelve-year-olds who fall in love, make a secret pact, and run away together into the wilderness. As various authorities try to hunt them down, a violent storm is brewing off-shore — and the peaceful island community is turned upside down in more ways than anyone can handle. Bruce Willis plays the local sheriff. Edward Norton is a Khaki Scout troop leader. Bill Murray and Frances McDormand portray the young girl’s parents. When discussing the “merit” of titles joining The Criterion Collection, it seems like a no brainer to see Fred Newmeyer and Sam Taylor’s Safety Last! as the latest masterpiece to get a spine number. The Harold Lloyd-starring comedy remains an endlessly delightful romp, as inventive as well as relatable as it must have felt in [...]

Note: The following piece contains spoilers for both Shadow of a Doubt and Stoker. Alfred Hitchcock’s Shadow of a Doubt is already available on Blu-ray, as a component of the sizeable Hitchcock box-set that was released last October. This month, however, sees its individual, standalone release on the format, and the timing couldn’t be more [...]
After a recent New York screening of František Vláčil‘s Marketa Lazarová, my friend and fellow critic, Vadim Rizov, tweeted the following response: “Sheep God war men snow church blood swords ‘old crone’ justice grass wtf WTF UNCLE.” He certainly wasn’t alone in such a confused response. Lazarová — now out on Blu-ray via Criterion — is [...]
