As we reported earlier this month with Sam Rockwell‘s casting, the world’s greatest reunion is coming together. Andrew Dominik, director of one of the finest films this past decade (The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford) is re-teaming with stars Brad Pitt and Casey Affleck for the heist drama Cogan’s Trade. Deadline now reports the film’s domestic distribution rights have been bought and we have a tentative release.

The Weinstein Company has pledged a $20 million guarantee for print & advertising budget and they plan a wide release in the first quarter of 2012. I’d say let’s hope they do a better job than Warner Bros. in 2007, but considering they are already planning a wide release, it looks like they have. Brad Pitt will lead as Jackie Cogan, “a professional enforcer who investigates a heist that takes place during a high stakes poker game held under the protection of the mob.”

In this report, they bring up James Gandolfini possibly joining the cast. We’ve also heard rumors of Josh Brolin, Javier Bardem, Bill Murray, Mark Ruffalo, and Zoe Saldana all joining, but nothing is confirmed except our three stars above.

Production starts February 28th in New Orleans. I hope our next post regarding the film is that Roger Deakins has joined the crew.

Is this your most-anticipated film of 2012?
