Borat and Bruno director Larry Charles is set to direct Jim Carrey in a new comedy titled Pierre Pierre, Deadline reports. The film sees Carrey as an obnoxious “Frenchman who transports a stolen painting from Paris to London.”

Edwin Cannistraci and Frederick Seton wrote the Black List script two years ago, which sold for $1 million. Jason Reitman was attached to direct Carrey, in the project set up at Fox Atomic. When that fell apart the comedy was in limbo. It is now back with Larry Charles and a $20 million budget.

Jim Carrey has yet to make a comedy return this past decade like his ’90’s era of reign. I enjoyed Yes Man, but it was far from Dumb and Dumber or Ace Ventura. I can’t see Larry Charles doing a Borat-esque docu-style, but I’d welcome a solid comedic director teaming up with Carrey even though the premise doesn’t seem like much.

Are you excited for a possible Carrey comedic comeback under Charles?
