After directing the fantastic documentary on arcade game rivalry with King of King: A Fistful of Quarters, Seth Gordon lost a bit of cred when his Hollywood debut was the lackluster Four Christmases. He is back in a big way this summer with Horrible Bosses starring Colin Farrell, Kevin Spacey, Jennifer Aniston, Jason Bateman, Jason Sudeikis, Charlie Day and Jamie Foxx. I’ve seen it and can safely say it is one of the best comedies of the year. Check out the trailer for a hint of what to expect. While it is aligned to be the sleeper hit of the summer, what will Gordon do next?

Deadline reports none other than a reboot of the 1983 MGM hit WarGames. The original, directed by John Badham, was a breakout turn for Matthew Broderick, who starred alongside Ally Sheedy “as computer prodigies who find a back door into a military computer program. They think they are playing games with the computer only to find they could trigger WWIII if the computer launches nuclear missiles at the Russians.”

With technology today there is huge possibilities for Gordon to create something interesting. He certainly has a keen understanding of the videogame world with King of King, and was able to create thrilling drama in that doc. After Horrible Bosses being so great, I almost wish he’d stick with comedies, but I’d be interested in this. Unlike a lot of other reboots, it is a property that could actually use it.

What do you think of Gordon taking on a WarGames reboot? Is it necessary?
